Welcome to Hill AFB. We hope your stay here is both productive and enjoyable. Hill is a major Air Force installation. As such, all of the amenities such an installation can provide are available.
The base is divided into two main areas: the East Area and the West Area. The East Area is where you will find the BX, Commissary, Clubs, Medical Clinic, Gym, etc. Also, most of the maintenance functions are in the East Area. The West Area contains mostly logistic and administrative functions as well as the Defense Mega Center Ogden, the Poe Conference Center, and the OO-ALC Commander's office.
Getting to Hill AFB is easy. It's located right off Interstate 15, about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City.Central Utah Hill is located along the Wasatch Front, the mountain chain just to the east. To the north of the base, is Ogden. Founded in 1850 by Mormon pioneers, it has grown to a population of 64,000.
Neighboring Hill to the west are several smaller towns. Starting from the north and coming from Ogden into Davis County are Riverdale, Roy, Sunset, Clearfield, and Layton. There is no real division from one town to the next. Just about anything you need can be found in these open and friendly business communities. Salt Lake City, approximately 35 miles further south, is the capital of the state as well as its dominant economic, cultural, and entertainment center.
There are numerous attractions in Salt Lake City and if time permits during your stay, you would find it very enjoyable to sample them.Outdoor recreation is a major feature of Utah. During the spring, summer and fall, you will find hiking or driving around the area particularly pleasant. During the winter, skiing is the attraction. Utah boasts world famous "Powder" snow.
As the winter storms move through the area (primarily from west to east), the heavy water laden snows are deposited in California. By the time they get to Utah, the snow is lighter and drier making a unique and thrilling skiing experience. If you happen to be visiting with us during the ski season (November-March) you will find ski rentals, transportation and instruction abundantly available.
There are three ski resorts within 20 miles of Ogden: Nordic Valley, Snow Basin, and Powder Mountain. Hill Air Force Base is an Air Force Materiel Command base located in northern Utah. Hill is home to many operational and support missions, with the Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) serving as the host organization. The center provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The base performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10 and C-130 Hercules aircraft.
